Gun Safe Dehumidifier - Protect Your Investment

We all know how expensive guns and ammunition are becoming.  Like any other costly item, a gun needs to be protected from the elements and there is no greater threat to your weapons then moisture.  I will admit that I am no expert when it comes to a gun safe dehumidifier, but the experts recommend one so I at least will go with the better safe than sorry rule.

A dehumidifier for your gun and ammunition safe will help protect your weapons from the buildup of condensation that is possible in any enclosed area. Once your guns are affected by moisture, damage can occur quickly and become very costly. There is no need to take this chance as a mini-dehumidifier (about the size of a coffee cup saucer) can easily and inexpensively be mounted on the floor or back wall of most any gun safe.

Most experts agree and recommend, the safest way to lower the humidity in a gun safe or biometric gun safe is with a silica gel filled mini-dehumidifier. Silica gel is a well-known and trusted desiccant that has been used to protect numerous types of products for many years and actually absorbs the moisture right out of the air. So why do I not just put the little packets like come shipped in shoes or like products?  While this idea may work in the short term in a small safe, most gun safes are larger than a shoe box and need a larger source of dehumidification to properly protect your firearms and ammunition.

Should you have ammunition or weapons that already have some rust spots on them, rub them lightly with steel wool and place in your gun safe with the new mini-humidifier you just installed because you found it to be a good idea after reading this article.  As I stated above, it is much better to err on the side of caution, and in this case the cost of a gun safe dehumidifier is minimal when compared to the irreversible moisture damage that could occur to any of your unprotected guns or ammunition.
